Bir şeyin çok ya da az olduğunu İngilizce'de, isimlerden önce miktarına göre "a little, a few, many, much, a lot of" getirerek söylüyoruz.
Olumlu cümlelerde bir şeyin "çok" olduğunu söylemek için "a lot of" veya "lots of"u kullanıyoruz.
There are lots of mistakes. (Çok hata var.)
We have a lot of work today. (Bugün çok işimiz var.)
They need a lot of money. (Onlara çok para lazım.)
Sayılan (kaç tane olduğunu söyleyebildiğimiz) isimleri çoğul yapmayı unutmayın.
There are a lot of books. (Çok kitap var.)
Olumlu cümlelerde "az" demek için sayılan isimlerde "a few", sayılamayanlarda " a little" kullanıyoruz. "a few" birkaç, "a little" ise biraz anlamına gelir.
There were a few people at concert. (Konserde az insan vardı.)
There is a little time before the guests come. (Misafirler gelmeden önce az zaman var.)
Olumsuz cümlelerde ve sorularda "çok" demek için "many" ve "much"ı kullanıyoruz. Sayılan isimlerde many, sayılamayanlarda much kullanılır.
Is there much traffic? (Çok mu trafik var?)
Are there many people outside at nights? (Geceleri dışarda çok insan var mı?)
We haven't got much room. (Çok fazla yerimiz yok.)
There aren't many students these days. (Bu günlerde çok öğrenci yok.)
Bir şeyin "kaç tane" olduğunu sormak için "how many"; "ne kadar" olduğunu sormak için "how much" soru kelimelerini kullanıyoruz.
How many kids do you have? (Kaç çocuğun var?)
How much sugar is there at home? (Evde ne kadar şeker var?)
Bir şeyin rahatsız edici derecede "çok fazla" olduğunu söylemek için "too many" ve "too much" kullanıyoruz.
We have too much work, but we don't have enough time. (Çok fazla işimiz var ama yeterli zamanımız yok.)
There are too many people in İstanbul. (İstanbul'da çok fazla insan var.)
"çok az" olduğunu, "little" ve "few" kelimeleriyle ("a" olmadan) söylüyoruz.
We have little money, we can't buy a house. (Çok az paramız var, ev alamayız.)
There is few youngs in our village. (Köyümüzde çok az genç var.)
