"Nerede, ne" ve "nasıl" sorularına cevap veren cümleler İngilizce'de "am, is, are" yardımcı fiilleriyle yapılır.

 
Evdeyim. - I'm at home.
 
Ayşe öğrenci. - Ayşe is a student.
 
Yemekler lezzetli. - The meals are delicious.
I (ben) am
she, he, it (o) is
you, we, they (siz,biz, onlar) are
  • Bu yardımcıları şu şekilde kısaltabiliriz.
am I'm
is he's, she's, it's
are they're, we're, you're
  • Olumsuzlar "not" ekiyle yapılır. "not" eki yardımcılarla birleşip söylemi daha pratik yapar.
 
I'm not ... .
 
She isn't ... .
 
They aren't ... .
 
"am" yardımcı fiili "not" ile birleşmez.
