EBay to own 93 percent of Turkish e-commerce site

EBay, owner of the world’s biggest e-commercemarketplace, announced Tuesday that it has agreed toacquireadditionalsharein Turkish e-commerce website GittiGidiyor.com.
Thedealfollows eBay’s acquisition of a minoritystakein the company in 2007. With this latest share acquisition, eBay will own nearly 93 percent of theoutstandingshares of GittiGidiyor.com.
The companies did notdisclosethetermsof the deal.
“Launchedon Feb. 5, 2001, GittiGidiyor.com has more than 6.4 millionregisteredusers,” said a company statement. “Its business model iscomplementaryto eBay’s with the addition of amandatoryescrowservice for payments between buyer and seller.”
Turkey is the world’s 12th largest market for Internet usage, with apenetrationrate of 45 percent, according to Internet World Stats.
