When she left her warm and comfortable home in 1996 after her children had left home, she got so irritated by the "greedyconsumersociety" that she wanted to try living without money.
"I’ve found out that I can live without money. I can get everything I need bybarteringand getting presents,” she says.
Schewermer has been living without money for 15 years now, she gets food and housing by helping with the work in the places.
"I am never short of food, clothing or friends and I have so much less stress in my life these days. I am not ruled by money, or bills, or greed. I just let go."
She even turns down the money that her publisher offers as a cash advance for her book, which is about her experiences during this period of her life.
However unreasonable the story sounds, -it might be a marketing strategy for her book-, it provokes the sense that we don't really need such a lot of money to make our life much more fun and easy to get away from the stress that is caused by the pressure of making money.
