“to” ile kısalan yapılar:

The first, the second, the next, the last, the only gibi ifadelerden sonra ve suprlativelerden (the strongest) sonra sıfat cümleciği geliyorsa “to” ile kısaltılabilir.

• Gizem was the first student who handed the report. (Raporu ilk teslim eden öğrenci Gizem’di.)

• The only person who understands me is you. (Beni gerçekten anlayan tek kişi sensin.)

• Is the next patient who will get examined here? (Muayene olacak bir sonraki hasta burada mı?)

“to” ile kısalan diğer yapılar

Yenetek, zorunuluk, gereklilik, gelecek anlatan yapılarda ve belgisiz zamirlerden (someone/somebody, something, somewhere, anyone/anybody, anything, anywhere, no one/nobody, nothing, nowhere) sonra "to" ile kısaltılır. Bu yapıları Türkçe’de de –ecak –acak ekleriyle ifade ediyoruz.

• There are a lot of things that I must do. (Yapmam gereken çok şey var.)

• There aren’t many things that we can talk. (Konuşabileceğimiz fazla bir şey yok.)

• Our friend who will help you is inside. (Size yardımcı olacak arkadaşımız içeride.)

• There was no one whom she can trust. (Güvenebileceği kimse yoktu.)

• He is seeking something which can return profit. (Kar getirebilecek bir şey arıyor.)
