MAN OF

man of affairs: iş adamı / a person engaged in commercial or industrial business

My father is a man of affairs. He works in a big company. (Babam bir iş adamı. Büyük bir şirkette çalışıyor.)

man of letters: edebiyatçı, yazar / a man, usually a writer, who knows a lot about literature

Yaşar Kemal is a worldwide known man of letters. (Yaşar Kemal dünyaca ünlü bir yazar.)

man of science: bilim adamı / a scientist

He is a very successful and famous man of science. (Çok başarılı ve ünlü bir bilim adamı.)

man of substance: zengin adam / a wealthy man

If you want to be a man of substance, you should work hard. (Zengin bir adam olmak istiyorsan çok sıkı çalışman gerekir.)

man of the people: halk adamı / a person, who is liked by a lot of ordinary people and seems to understand and like them

Although he is very famous he is not arrogant. On the contrary, he is man of the people. (Çok ünlü olmasına rağmen kendini beğenmiş değil. Aksine, bir halk adamı.)

man of means: çok zengin / a wealthy person

The owner of that factory is a man of means. He has got lots of property. (O fabrikanın sahibi çok zengin. Çok malı mülkü var.)

man of his word: sözünün eri / a person who keeps their promises

My grandfather was a man of his word. He always kept his promise. (Dedem sözünün eri bir adamdı. Her zaman sözünü tutardı.)

man of many talents: on parmağında on marifet, çok yetenekli / a skillfull man

Ahmet can fix this TV easily. He is a man of many talents. (Ahmet bu televizyonu rahatlıkla tamir edebilir. O, çok yetenekli.)

man of the cloth: din adamı / a clergyman

He used to be a man of cloth in the past but he is a businessman now. (Eskiden din adamıydı ama şimdi iş adamı.)

man of (many) parts: elinden çok iş gelen kimse / a man with great ability in many different areas

I heard that you are a man of many parts. Could you please help me? (Elinden çok iş geldiğini duydum. Bana yardım eder misin?)

man of the match: maçın adamı / the team member who has given the most outstanding performance in a particular game

Owing to his high performance, he was chosen the man of the match. (Yüksek performansı sebebiyle maçın adamı seçildi.)

man of honour: namuslu, dürüst adam / a man who adheres to what is right or to a high standard of conduct

Do not try to cheat anyone. Be a man of honour. (Kimseyi aldatmaya çalışma. Dürüst bir insan ol.)

man of moment: günün adamı / a man of importance at a particular time

After he learnt that he had won the big prize he became the man of moment in the office. (Büyük ödülü kazandığını öğrendikten sonra ofiste günün adamı oldu.)

man of God: din adamı / a clergyman

He is a well-regarded man of God. Everybody values his opinions. (O saygıdeğer bir din adamıdır. Herkes fikirlerine değer verir.)

man of few words: az konuşan adam / someone, not necessarily a man, who speaks concisely or not at all

To be a man of few words is always the best. (Az konuşan biri olmak her zaman en iyisidir.)

man of property: mal mülk sahibi adam / a rich man

He may be a man of property but he is not happy. (Mal mülk sahibi biri olabilir ama mutsuz.)

man of principle: prensip sahibi bir adam / a person who has principles

The new boss is very serious and he looks as if he is a man of principles. (Yeni patron çok ciddi ve prensip sahibi bir adammış gibi görünüyor.)

man of romance: gönül adamı / a romantic man

My brother is an absolute man of romance. He always writes romantic poems for his girlfriend. (Erkek kardeşim tam bir gönül adamıdır. Kız arkadaşına her zaman romantik şiirler yazar.)

man of few wants: pek az isteği olan adam / a man who doesn’t want many things

He never demands so many things. He is a man of few wants. (Hiçbir zaman fazla bir şey talep etmez. Pek az isteği olan bir adamdır.)

man of middle height: orta boylarda adam / a man with average height

My boyfriend is shorter than you. He is a man of middle height. (Erkek arkadaşım senden kısa. Orta boylarda bir adam.)

man of wide interests: birçok şeye ilgi duyan adam / a man who is keen on many things

I am a man of wide interests. I have got many hobbies. (Bir çok şeye ilgi duyan biriyim. Çok hobim var.)

man of action: faal insan / a man whose life is characterized by physical activity or deeds rather than by words or intellectual matters.

He is a man of action. I can never find him at home (Çok faal bir insan. Onu hiçbir zaman evde bulamıyorum.)

man of the world: görmüş geçirmiş adam, çok tecrübeli / someone who has a lot of experience of life and people, and can deal with most situations

He traveled around the world and met with different people. He must be a man of world. (Dünyayı dolaştı ve farklı insanlarla tanıştı. Görmüş geçirmiş bir adam olmalı.)

man of weight: nüfüzlu kişi / a person who is experienced in the ways of sophisticated society

I need a man of weight in order to finish this job. (Bu işi bitirmek için nüfüzlu birine ihtiyacım var.)

man of straw: bostan korkuluğu, zayıf karakterli insan / someone who has a weak character

Don’t behave like a man of straw! Pull yourself together! (Zayıf karakterli biri gibi davranma! Kendine gel!)

man of the house: evin erkeği / the male head of a household

If you want to be the man of the house you must start to earn money. (Evin erkeği olmak istiyorsan para kazanmaya başlamalısın.)
